Dental Sealants

Dental sealants are a dental treatment intended to prevent tooth decay. Teeth have recesses on their biting surfaces; the back teeth have fissures (grooves) and some front teeth have cingulum pits. Dental sealants are materials placed in these pits and fissures to fill them in, creating a smooth surface which is easy to clean.

The sealant provides a physical barricade to protect natural tooth surfaces and grooves, inhibiting build-up of bacteria and food trapped within such fissures and grooves. As dental sealants are clear or white, they are only visible upon close inspection..

The Process

Applying the sealant is a quick and painless process. We will clean and dry your tooth before placing an acidic gel on your teeth. This gel roughs up your tooth surface so a strong bond will form between your tooth and the sealant. After a few seconds, we will rinse off the gel and dry your tooth once again before applying the sealant onto the grooves of your tooth. We will then use a special blue light to harden the sealant.
